brian hofmeister - artist

In September of 2017, visual artist Brian Hofmeister closed the doors on his Chicago studio and moved with his husband to Southeast Asia. Settling into Suzhou, China, he reinvented his artistic practice and began a body of work entitled Permutations. It was out of necessity to remain lightweight and portable that Permutations started as experiments using only pen and paper. In the intervening years, the artist has lived in 6 cities in 4 different countries. Through these travels, he has accumulated new materials and subjects of inspiration, and so Permutations has also evolved, incorporating watercolor, gouache, collage and found materials, yet the project still stays true to the initial concept of interpreting a simple geometric shape in the form a teardrop. Hofmeister now resides in Cincinnati, Ohio, where Permutations continues to evolve, most notably by incorporating works on wood, and creating pieces of much larger scale.
