Permutation no. 405

$400.00

A very special PERMUTATION, created on a map-lined interior book jacket of the “Japan” volume of a 1962 Life World Library encyclopedia. I bought this encyclopedia from a little road side book stall on my first trip to India in January of 2020, before travel was restricted due to the Covid-19 virus. I really love how worn and beaten this book jacket is. In the eye of the PERMUTATION shape is Wuhan, China, believed to be the epicenter of the Covid-19 epidemic. Among the many other symbolic references relating to the PERMUTATION shape, is the idea of interconnectedness, and I felt like this piece very much comes together around that theme. The cover, and every page of the encyclopedia, has tiny holes and burrows from book worm infestation, which I think is also great symbolism for the insidious nature of the Covid-19 virus on our planet.
