I recently acquired some vintage Spanish language textbooks from a little market in Quito. This composition is superimposed over a page from Quimica II Organica, c. 1980, published in Lima, Peru. It features a portrait of Empodocles, a 5th century Greek philosopher. He was the original guy who came up with the notion of the 4 elements (earth, air, fire and water). Honestly, I didn’t know that when I created this piece - I looked it up after. The spiral effect created by this composition reminds me of a portal through time.
