Permutation no. 803

$225.00

The figure in this piece was taken from a cigarillo ad from a July 20th, 1962 Life Magazine. The ad was misogynistic and patronizingly asks if a man should offer a cigarillo to a woman. At the time, it probably was considered quite progressive, because it says that he should.

This Permutation is rare in its use of watercolor, ink and collage. I really prefer to have minimal compositions and adding too many elements sometimes feels like it can be too much, but it’s very gratifying when I can pull it off, as I feel like I’ve done here.
